About
VDL SPORTS PROJECTS
“Sport isn’t what we create. It’s who we are.”
VDL Sports Projects represents the fusion of engineering, teamwork and a high-performance sporting mentality. We deliver complete sporting environments, from starting point to experience, backed by the strength and expertise of VDL Groep. What sets us apart is not only what we build, but how we do it: as one team, driven by the same energy that defines sport.

Energy-positive stadiums
SELF-SUFFICIENT ENERGY HUBS
VDL develops complete energy solutions that transform stadiums into self-sufficient energy hubs.
By integrating solar panels, installing charging infrastructure in car parks and using energy storage through smart battery systems, a sustainable ecosystem is created that generates, stores and distributes energy efficiently.
This integrated approach strengthens VDL’s position as a technology integrator in sustainable infrastructure: from production and storage to use. A concrete example of how innovation, circularity and energy efficiency come together in the sport of the future.
Whatever's next:
NEXTPOLE
NextPole is VDL’s open smart pole solution. It paves the way for virtually all smart city applications that are already available today and those that will be developed in the coming years. VDL NextPole is a smart pole without vendor lock-in. This gives you complete freedom to make your own choices regarding lighting, charging, data, connectivity and much more.
With NextPole, you choose openness as the new standard. This lays the foundation for a truly smart city: a city prepared for any future, whatever it may look like.
VDL’s sustainable factories
GREEN TECHNOLOGY
Our new factories are designed to operate as efficiently and sustainably as possible. The new factories will be delivered energy-neutral, using ‘green’ technology. This includes, among other things: more natural light and less artificial lighting (healthier and safer for employees), the reuse of rainwater and the choice to build with medium-weight concrete (this makes the heating and cooling cycle in summer more manageable).
VDL Bus & Coach
100% ELECTRIC CITY BUS
Based on the VDL vision and experience with the current VDL Citea fleet, a bus concept has been developed entirely around an electric drivetrain. It is ready for the future, with zero emissions as standard. Batteries in the floor, a one-piece composite sidewall, intelligent energy management, a sophisticated climate system and an ergonomic driver’s environment. With these 5 key innovations, we are introducing the new-generation VDL Citea product range, consisting of 4 length variants and 5 types. The range of the new-generation VDL Citea has been significantly improved.
